Biography

Cesare Piazza, MD, born in Cremoma in 1971, is Full Professor and Chief of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery of the University of Brescia, Italy since September 2020. He received his MD degree at the University of Pavia, Italy in 1996 and completed his Residency Programme in Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery in Brescia in 2001. He became Assistant Professor in 2007 and Associate Professor – Chief of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Maxillofacial, and Thyroid Surgery of the National Cancer Institute, University of Milan, Italy in 2017. His clinical and research activities are focused on head and neck oncology, with special emphasis to laryngo-hypopharyngeal, tracheal, oral, thyroid, parotid, sarcoma, laser, and reconstructive microsurgery. Dr. Piazza is an active member of the European Laryngological Society since 2000, part of its Scientific Council since September 2010, and President Elect from 2018. He authored or co-authored 171 papers in peer-reviewed journals as well as 78 book chapters. He delivered 827 proffered papers and invited lectures in national and international Congresses and Courses. He serves as Editor of the Current Opinion in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery journal for the Head and Neck Oncology issue since 2010 and is member of its Editorial Board since 2013. He is member of the Editorial Board of Frontiers in Oncology since 2016, and Acta Otorhinolaryngologica Italica and Frontiers in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery since 2017.His surgical activity has been always mainly devoted to head and neck cancer treatment, with over 5500 surgical procedures performed in this field (of whom more than 1100 free flaps).

I’m a member of the Americna Head and Neck Society, European Rhinological Society, British Rhinologic Society and European Skull Base Society. Current fields of interest are surgical management of CRS and endoscopic skull base surgery. Regularly collaborates with Center for Cranial Base Surgery University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was educated in endoscopic skull base surgery.

JEAN ANDERSON ELOY, MD, FARS, Vice Chair and Professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Professor of Neurological Surgery, Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Director, Rhinology and Sinus Surgery, Director, Otolaryngology Research, Co-Director, Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery Program, Chair and Chief of Service, Saint Barnabas Medical Center . Dr. Eloy is currently Professor and Vice Chair of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He serves as the Director of Rhinology and Sinus Surgery, Director of Otolaryngology Research, and Co-Director of the Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery Program. Dr. Eloy also has joint appointments as Professor of Neurological Surgery and Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He is currently the Co-President of the New Jersey Academy of Otolaryngology/New Jersey Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, and the Chair and Chief of Service of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Dr. Eloy’s contributions to the fields of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and Neurological Surgery include over 450 journal articles, over 425 peer-reviewed articles, 5 books, and 44 book chapters in the subfield of Rhinology, Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery, over 510 scientific presentations at regional, national, and international otolaryngologic and neurological surgery meetings, as well as over 350 invited lectures and oral presentations.

Carl H. Snyderman, MD, MBA, is Professor of Otolaryngology and Neurological Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Otolaryngology Director of the Center for Cranial Base Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).Dr. Snyderman is also Vice Chair for Quality and Safety of the Department of Otolaryngology.He is recognized internationally as a pioneer and leader in the development of the endoscopic endonasal approach, a minimally invasive surgical approach to the cranial base.

Cem Meco, MD, FEBORL-HNS is a Professor of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (ORL-HNS) at Ankara University, Turkey as well as at Salzburg Paracelsus Medical University, Austria. He is currently the President of the Confederation of European ORL-HNS (CEORL) and Vice President of the European Board Examination (EBE) in ORL-HNS where he also serves as an Examiner, apart from functioning at different levels among other international and national societies, organisations and courses. After receiving his medical degree from Ankara University Medical School, Turkey, he has done his residency in Salzburg, Austria under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Klaus Albegger where he further continued to work for several years and done fellowships and advance training on Otology-Neurotology, Cochlear Implantation, Skull Base Surgery, as well as Rhinology and Advanced Sinus Surgery. Being one of the earliest to undertake EBE in ORL-HNS, he is a board certified “Fellow” in Europe. While continuing to be a faculty member in Salzburg to date, he has been also functioning as a faculty at Ankara University since 2004, where he established the CI Programme, enhanced the Multidisciplinary Skull Base Team with endoscopic techniques and lately from 2015 served as the Chairman for a 3-year term till he became the President of the CEORL.He is the author or co-author of many presented or published papers and book chapters. Apart being among the organisers of main European Congresses, he is a worldwide invited faculty at various significant congresses, seminars and courses, where he has made numerous presentations, lectures and panel discussions throughout his career. His main research area has been the diagnosis and management of cerebrospinal fluid fistulas. In his practice, he mostly deals with rhinologic, oto-neurotologic and skull base disorders. Currently, his main area of interest is the advanced endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery.Among many other society memberships, he is an Honorary Member of the Austrian ORL-HNS Society, Member of the Turkish, German, Balkan and Danube (Honorary) ORL-HNS Societies; the American Academy of ORL-HNS Foundation; the European, Turkish, American and Bulgarian (Honorary) Rhinologic Societies, European Academy of Otology-Neurotology and the European, German and Turkish Skull Base Societies as well as CORLAS.

Narrower focus within otorhinolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery with special focus on the surgery of salivary glands, laryngology and reconstruction. Performing sialendoscopy since 2011 (more than 400 operations). Dr. Christian Quitter works in full-time academic practice as deputy head of department at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, University of Pretoria Medical School from 2015. His special interest since 2009 has been rhinology and endoscopic base of skull surgery. Dr. Quitter is teaching sinus surgery at local and international courses, lecturing at congresses in South Africa and abroad and is a member of the South African ENT Society, the South African Allergic Rhinitis Working Group as well as the American Rhinologic Society. He is director of the University of Pretoria Sinus Surgery Course as well as the Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery Course and co-presented the first Sub-Saharan Africa Endoscopic Sinus Surgery in 2016. Research interests include inflammatory mediators in chronic rhinitis and nasal polyps, epidemiology of sinusitis, Vitamin D and endoscopic base of skull surgery.
